LAHORE: Chairman Wapda Lt Gen (Retd) Muhammad Saeed and Liu Huailiang, Chairman of China Gezhouba Group International Engineering Co. Ltd (CGGC), held a high-level meeting to review and accelerate construction progress on the Dasu Hydropower Project (DHPP), a flagship initiative central to Pakistan’s long-term energy security.

The meeting took place at the Wapda Mega Hydel Projects Complex, where both delegations discussed strategies to fast-track work and resolve bottlenecks. CGGC International serves as the project’s main contractor.

Highlighting the strategic significance of DHPP, the Wapda chairman urged CGGC to deploy additional resources and enhance on-ground performance to keep the project aligned with its construction schedule. He reaffirmed Wapda’s full support in ensuring all contractual commitments and timelines are met.

According to Gwadar Pro, the Dasu Hydropower Project is a major run-of-river scheme on the Indus River, located around 7 km upstream of Dasu town in Upper Kohistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Positioned 74 km downstream of the planned Diamer Basha Dam and 345 km from Islamabad, the project will ultimately generate 4,320 megawatts of electricity in two phases.

Stage I, currently under construction, will contribute 2,160 MW to the national grid through six units of 360 MW each. The phase is expected to produce 12,222 GWh annually and is targeted for completion within five years.
